Choose & Register with a Hosting Company

So if you’ve watched the first video tutorial and purchased a domain through GoDaddy, now what do you do?  Well, now you need to choose a hosting company to store your files that, in turn, automagically make websites! 

But where do you start in the sea of competitive web hosting?  Start by asking someone else who already has a website, what they think of their current provider.  Based on your friend’s experience level, as compared to yours, then you can gauge whether or not this same company would work well for you too.

Sometimes you’ll hear a horror story, so you’ll have to fairly judge it against their proficiency and yours and whether or not you could, or would, want to handle the same situation.  For example, some advanced webmasters do not mind if the customer support is only via a support ticket system, while others could not simply stand for that — they need to talk to someone RIGHT now! 

We currently have several web hosts supporting our client base.  We could have all of them in ‘one basket’, but experience was taught us at least, that when 40+ people lose their website while a server is down, that mess isn’t worth it.  However, if you had 5 to 8 people without their website, at any given time, then that’s more ‘manageable’.  It’s still a headache, but it’s not a ‘jump off the ledge’ kind of day. 

Blue Host, Dream Host, Host Gator, Host Monster and SEO Hosting are all very decent hosting companies.  Admittedly, we currently do not use any of their services.  We sometimes get ‘inherited’ web hosting from client accounts, mixed with some smaller off-brand hosting.

Since we’re ‘seasoned’ and can handle our way around CPanel, it’s not a big deal to us, but we can certainly see where, if you were just starting out, you might want to go the ‘brand’ route, where you could get someone on the phone to walk you through the process.

This type of customer service is, of course, going to cost more than what we pay, but for the first few times, it may be worth it to you.

In this video, we talk about some of the features and benefits when choosing one company over another.  Not that these are exclusive; meaning that you will never look twice at the ‘losing’ company again, but each one has it’s pluses for the time in which you need it and in this case, that’s right now.

They certainly give you a lot of choices — most of which you can simply ignore, but you don’t know that until someone shows you…so that’s why we’ve started to partner with a few other people to bring you some video tutorials on some of the things people need to know, but are afraid to ask.
